In compliance-driven industries, monitoring isn’t optional - and neither is connectivity. Whether you’re tracking a single blood fridge or coordinating data across a nationwide fleet, the ability to capture, transmit, and act on information in real time is critical.
That’s why we built Sematics® around a wireless architecture that goes far beyond “just working.” It’s engineered for resilience, designed for compliance, and built to adapt to the challenges of real-world environments - from rural depots to high-dependency hospital wards.
Not All LoRaWAN Is Created Equal
Many platforms claim to support LoRaWAN, but in practice, they’re often fragile. A single network failure - like a dropped backhaul or an overloaded router - can create blind spots that no one notices until it’s too late. That’s not acceptable in environments where missed data can compromise compliance, safety, or patient care.
Sematics® approaches infrastructure differently. We don’t just use LoRaWAN - we reengineered it for resilience. Our architecture is layered with redundancy, edge intelligence, and self-healing logic, ensuring that data continues to flow, even when networks don’t.
Hybrid Topology: Mesh Meets Star
The Sematics® Link+ gateway supports both star and mesh communication modes, giving it the flexibility to adapt to any site layout.
In fixed installations, a star topology offers clean signal paths and direct control. But when sites are large or complex - such as hospitals, manufacturing plants, or distribution depots - the system automatically switches to mesh networking. Link+ gateways can connect peer-to-peer, sharing the load, extending coverage, and creating fallback paths. This hybrid model means your infrastructure doesn’t need rethinking every time you scale - it just works.
Built-In Backhaul Redundancy
Network outages happen. What matters is what your system does when they do.
Every Link+ gateway includes dual backhaul channels - typically Ethernet as primary and 4G LTE as backup. If the main connection fails, the device automatically switches to mobile data with zero disruption to sensor visibility or alerts. There’s no need for manual intervention, no data loss, and no blackout period. In environments where every second counts - such as live transport monitoring, pharmaceutical storage, or hospital environments - this kind of resilience is non-negotiable.
Intelligence at the Edge
The resilience of Sematics® starts at the very edge - with the Node+ sensors themselves. Unlike typical IoT devices that transmit and forget, each Node+ is built to ensure data continuity under real-world conditions.
If the network becomes unavailable or a message isn't received by the platform, the Node+ recognises the failure and stores the data locally. Once connectivity is restored or a proper acknowledgement is received, it automatically retries the transmission, ensuring nothing is lost in transit. This intelligent behaviour happens before the data even reaches the gateway, making the system robust even when Link+ is operating solely as a packet forwarder.
By embedding logic and local storage at the sensor level, Sematics® guarantees that critical environmental data is never dropped - even in the face of intermittent signal or network issues.
End-to-End Security, Always On
Resilience isn’t just about uptime - it’s about trust. Sematics® encrypts all data in transit and at rest, from the moment it leaves a Node+ sensor through to its storage in the cloud. Pairing is secured via public-private key exchange, and firmware is signed to prevent tampering.
This means your data is protected at every point in the journey - over LoRaWAN with AES encryption, through backhaul with TLS, and in-platform with encrypted storage. For regulated sectors, this isn't just best practice - it's a baseline requirement.
Designed for Scale - From Fridge to Fleet
Some platforms scale by simplifying. We scale by designing smarter.
Whether you're adding a single sensor to a vaccine fridge or rolling out thousands across fleets, the same Sematics® platform supports it all. Link+ gateways can be dropped in to extend coverage without reconfiguring the network. BLE and cellular devices can operate alongside LoRaWAN nodes in a hybrid mesh. The result is one unified, scalable infrastructure - flexible enough for site-level customisation and robust enough for national deployment.
Summary
When your business depends on environmental visibility, your infrastructure can’t just be wireless - it has to be resilient. Sematics® delivers a smarter LoRaWAN network: encrypted, redundant, intelligent, and scalable. It’s designed not just to collect data, but to protect it - and to make sure it gets where it needs to go, no matter what.
If you're relying on real-time monitoring, you need it to work every time - not just when the Wi-Fi holds.
